The following statement on the Virgin Media-O2 executive leadership appointment, upon closing, is attributable to Lutz Schüler, incoming CEO of the proposed joint venture:

“Today’s announcement marks a big step forward on our journey to create the UK’s National Connectivity Champion, as well as to unite two exceptional cultures and a wide mix of talented people. With two high-performing teams already in place, these decisions were never going to be easy, but we’ve been through a rigorous process and have worked hard to create a balanced team with a blend of leaders from both companies.

“I want to thank the existing Executive Teams of both companies for their successes up to this point, and their professionalism throughout the process. As we’ve noted before, the CMA is still conducting its regulatory review and, until that is completed, we continue to operate as two separate companies. However, I’m incredibly pleased that we now have a world-class team, ready to lead out of the gate once the transaction closes.”
